New Season Golf Update w/e 21st March 2015

Where’s the factor 30?

Pack away your winter woollies for a few months (well, at least until the end of August). The sun has got his hat on and scheduled to visit Dunning this Saturday for our 2015 Opening Day. Temperatures in the high 30’s are forecast but it’s unclear if that’s Centigrade or Fahrenheit. Make sure you arrive before 10.30am to register your name for the traditional 9 hole Mixed Texas Scramble. There will also be a group photo, free tipple, a finger buffet and Captain Hugh’s opening remarks. New members are particularly welcome. Why would you want to be anywhere else?

Winter League Winners

The Winter League finished on Monday 16th and Kevin Graham deservedly ran out winner of the Hamish Watt League title finishing on a “best 6 scores” total of 341 and a Winter handicap of 0. But Kevin was pipped at the post for the Ian Riddell Eclectic title by Andy Gray who won (on countback) with a final score of 47. Both Kevin and Andy become the first two names on the 2015 Rollo of Honour and gain the chance to compete in the prestigious end of season Grand Slam of Golf. That’s in October but before then there are 27 other Gents Singles competitions to win. First opportunity comes with the April Medal on Easter Saturday. If you’re looking to obtain a handicap in order to enter these competitions then please leave your name with the Starter and we’ll get you fixed up.

Calling all Seniors

The Senior Season starts on Monday morning 6th April. There are three competitions to play for over the season plus six Friendlies booked for 2015. The new catering facilities will be up and ready so early birds can enjoy a full breakfast!! If you’re interested, sign up with the £5 joining fee payable to the Duty Starter or Seniors Secretary, Neil Morton. They look forward to seeing both “old” and new Members in April

An Internal Matter

During the course of the winter we have been trialing an internal OOB on the 6th / 15th hole. The trial has been a great success ie no one has complained. This new boundary means you have to play the hole the proper way and also means that players coming down the 7th / 16th don’t have to dodge stray artillery. This local rule will now be extended throughout the summer season.

Digital Dunning

Over the course of the past 5 years or so, and particularly since the building of the new Pavilion, the Committee has made extensive efforts to run our Golf Club more as a business. We have a 3 year Business Plan that can be viewed on line. One of the key components of this Plan is to improve the quantity and quality of communication with Members and Visitors alike. This will now take a major step forward with the launch of our new upgraded / responsive web site on Friday 20th March. The new site can be accessed by using the traditional address at www.dunninggolfclub.co.uk from that date. It is much “cleaner” than the old site, much easier to navigate and contains a plethora of new, high quality photographs which shows Stunning Dunning at its very best. Check it out. There is a brand new course guide section as well as pages outlining our catering (the new Tee Room) and coaching (Andrew Bentley) services. The “responsive” element also enables you to get a much better experience when viewing the web site on a tablet or a smart phone. You’ll no longer have to scroll from side to side, everything will be easily accessed using the menu tabs and just scrolling down the page. The On Line Booking System, Master Scoreboard and the secure Members’ Section can all be accessed as in the past. Along with this, we intend to provide regular news items to keep you up to speed with everything going on down at DGC. These will be sent out via our new e mail database (hosted by Mail Chimp – true!) and published on the web site. For those of you resisting the need to be an e Member, hard copies will be left in the Pavilion. We hope you like the new site.

From everyone on the Dunning Golf Club Committee, have an enjoyable 2015 season and a special welcome to our new members.

Alan Hill

Match and Handicap Secretary
